The top ten most stolen cars in Canada

The total number of car thefts decreased, while the share of organized crime in them – is growing. A list of the ten most stolen cars in Canada demonstrates that insurers and law enforcement agencies should strengthen their efforts in preventing the theft and export of stolen cars abroad.
December 9, 2009 Insurance Bureau of Canada (Insurance Bureau of Canada, IBC) has published an annual list of most popular cars among the hijackers. Despite the fact that the Honda Civic has retained its first place, the appearance in the list is almost a luxury model, as the Cadillac Escalade, reflecting the fact that organized crime pays more attention to their damaging expensive cars.
So, here are a dozen of this:
Cadillac Escalade ESV 4-door AWD 2003
Honda Civic SiR 2-door 2000
Chevrolet / GMC Trailblazer SS 4-door 4WD 2006
Honda Civic SiR 2-door 1999
Cadillac Escalade ESV 4-door AWD 2005
Cadillac Escalade EXT 4-door AWD 2002
Audi S4 Quattro 4-door 2000
Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder two-door 1997
Cadillac Escalade 4-door 4WD 2005
Hummer H2 4-door AWD 2006
"We see two very different forms of hijackings," – says Rick Dubin, Vice-President of IBC. – "The first type of thief – the one who is just looking for a car that is easiest to steal – are no longer used, which stands in a secluded place, which is not equipped with sufficient anti-theft devices. Such a car then, most likely, is broken down into parts. A completely different type of thief – the one that focuses on luxury brands. Despite the fact that the stolen car is much more complex, it pays off – if, of course, well-functioning technology (the way of export, the system perebivki VIN-numbers, etc.) and volumes. "
Although such high quality and expensive cars like BMW X6, Toyota RAV4 and Lexus RX350 are not included in the above ten, they steal yet more readily than a year ago. The demand for such cars exist in Ghana, Nigeria, Dubai, Lebanon, Middle East and Eastern Europe. That is, the stolen cars are transported far away, and bring them back – very, very difficult. Therefore, the percentage of return of these cars is very small.
Avtovorovstvo at a Glance:
- For the 2008 Canadian insurers on the risk "theft" had paid $ 465 million, which averages about $ 30 for an insurance policy;
- In 2008 in Canada was stolen 125,271 vehicles, up 15% less than in 2007;
- In 2009 ICB, in cooperation with law enforcement agencies has been prevented export abroad 300 cars, 72 cars worth $ 11 million has been returned from abroad.
"The fact that theft is becoming less – it is certainly well" – encouraged by Rick Dubin. – "But we must remember that avtovorovstvo detrimental not only to owners of cars, but also society as a whole – because honest insurers will be forced to pay more, and stolen cars may be used, including terrorists. In many ways, be more productive to help the fight against hijackers recently passed Bill C-26 ".
