Ontario prohibits the use of any gadgets while driving

The new law aimed at streamlining traffic regulations in force in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Ontario is the fourth province of the country which has imposed a ban on the use of mobile phones and the first extension of the ban on all types of handheld electronic devices.

Robert Tremblay, director of research department IBC, welcomed the decision and pleased that it passed so quickly. "Three years ago in Ontario, the problem of" distracted drivers "could not even be raised – because it simply did not exist," – he recalls. – "Today, talking on a cell phone while driving is one of the most serious reasons, forcing drivers to be distracted on the road."

Now, Canadian drivers have to change their habits. Tremblay, however, emphasizes that a security problem at the wheel can not be solved just by existing legislative restrictions, as it is much broader and appears in many forms. "The use of hands-free headsets, of course, better than if the driver was holding the phone directly into your hand, but all the same and it distracts him from the road," – he explains.

IBC first start to deal with this problem three years ago, conducting research, setting up advertising campaigns to raise awareness of drivers.
